Penola – Results of Tornado

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Talking to accommodation businesses around Australia, everyone is asking how Penola is going following the tornado.

We are hearing and reading some great local stories of community response in the salvage and rebuilidng of the damaged areas in time for the proposed Mary MacKillop Canonisation Celebrations which are scheduled for Sunday 17th October, 2010.

It just so happens that this is also the same weekend as Coonawarra’s Carbernet Celebrations, placing a high demand on accommodation for these two very popular events.

However, there is still plenty of accommodation available in the surrounding areas and RoomsHere.com has set up a special listing so that you can find  accommodation within approximate driving times.

Garden Retreat B&B – Visit Mount Gambier in the summer

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Now is the time to plan a trip to Mount Gambier, as summer is definately the best time to be there.  The Blue Lake is an unbelievable blue from late December to mid March and you can spend at least a day walking around the lakes complex which includes a walk to the tower to view the lakes, city and surrounds.  Dont miss the Aquifer Tour, which takes you right down to the surface of the lake.

In the evening, visit Umpherston Sinkhole where possums come out to feed in the floodlit gardens and another attraction not to be missed is Engelbrecht Cave, where you will go down beneath the city to see the underground water that is gradually making its way to the ocean.

Stay at Garden Retreat B&B which is located in a quiet country location, just 5 minutes drive from the CBD.
