Generations in Jazz to be even bigger in 2012

Monday, May 16th, 2011

Another fabulous event this year with so much great music.  Apart from the usual thrill of hearing all the stage bands, vocal finalists and instrumental finalists, it was also exciting to hear the GIJ Academy band for the first time.   We’ve had a great number of enquiries about the Academy since the Generations weekend and the course is going from strength to strength.  If you’re interested in the chance of a lifetime to experience this ‘year 13′ course, then contact us through the GIJ website.

In November we also had the first Band Director’s Workshop, which was a huge success.

Next year is going to see yet another new component to the weekend – we are launching the GIJ Vocal Ensemble Award. This will be open to any high school jazz vocal ensemble with four or more members, allowing groups from a quartet to a large choir to take part and  giving everyone a chance to sing some jazz. As always, it just gets bigger and better!

Dates yet to be determined for 2012.

Penola – Results of Tornado

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Talking to accommodation businesses around Australia, everyone is asking how Penola is going following the tornado.

We are hearing and reading some great local stories of community response in the salvage and rebuilidng of the damaged areas in time for the proposed Mary MacKillop Canonisation Celebrations which are scheduled for Sunday 17th October, 2010.

It just so happens that this is also the same weekend as Coonawarra’s Carbernet Celebrations, placing a high demand on accommodation for these two very popular events.

However, there is still plenty of accommodation available in the surrounding areas and RoomsHere.com has set up a special listing so that you can find  accommodation within approximate driving times.
